Manchester City have become the first Premier League team to officially unveil a sleeve sponsor after they announced that Nexen Tire would appear on the club’s shirts beginning the 2017/18 season. The Premiership has allowed teams to bring in sleeve sponsors from next season and City have roped in South Korean firm Nexen, who have been the club’s official tyre sponsor since 2015. City’s current major shirt sponsors are Etihad.
Not all clubs might however be able to bring in a new secondary sponsor on their sleeves- Arsenal’s existing contract with Emirates, for instance, prevents the Gunners from displaying another sponsor’s logo.
The likes of Pep Guardiola and Ilkay Gundogan were present at the launch.
