Former Springbok captain John Smit has just joined Aviva Premiership outfit Saracens from the Natal Sharks. Smit, the most capped Springbok ever ( 111), was the captain of the South African rugby team when they won the 2007 Rugby World Cup and was also part of their 2003 and 2011 RWC squads.
Smit recently retired from international rugby but has decided to prolong his club career with Sarries, whose technical director, Brendan Venter, is also South African. There are also plenty of familiar faces for Smit at Sarries, notably Schalk Brits, Derick Hougaard and Neil de Kock, amongst others.
Here is a pic of John Smit in his Saracens jersey. Smit has announced a competition on Twitter which will see one of his followers win a signed Sarries shirt. ( @Johnsmit123 is his twitter handle)
