Week 4- Bayern only Adidas team to win in Europe

The fourth round of group stage fixtures in the CL have concluded, and as expected, we had some teams confirming their spot in the knockout stages. Interestingly, only two teams boast of a 100% record at this stage of the competition, with Real Madrid and Manchester City both losing theirs following draws against Shakhtar and Copenhagen respectively.

Copenhagen (Adidas) 0-0 Man City (Puma)
Maccabi Haifa (Nike) 2-0 Juventus (Adidas)
Dinamo Zagreb (Adidas) 1-1 RB Salzburg (Nike)
AC Milan (Puma) 0-2 Chelsea (Nike)
Shakhtar (Puma) 1-1 Real Madrid (Adidas)
Celtic (Adidas) 0-2 Leipzig (Nike)
Dortmund (Puma) 1-1 Sevilla (Castore)
PSG (Nike) 1-1 Benfica (Adidas)

Napoli (EA7) 4-2 Ajax (Adidas)
Brugge (Macron) 0-0 Atletico Madrid (Nike)
Rangers (Castore) 1-7 Liverpool (Nike)
Bayer Leverkusen (Castore) 0-3 Porto (New Balance)
Barcelona (Nike) 3-3 Inter Milan (Nike)
Viktoria Plzen (Macron) 2-4 Bayern (Adidas)
Tottenham (Nike) 3-2 Eintracht Frankfurt (Nike)
Sporting (Nike) 0-2 Marseille (Puma)

It was a matchweek to forget for Adidas, with Bayern the only side wearing the famed three stripes to win. Eight of the 32 teams don Adidas, but only Bayern managed to pick up all three points- Juventus were shocked 2-0 in Haifa by Maccabi while Real Madrid needed a stoppage time header from Antonio Rudiger to avoid a loss against Shakhtar.

Celtic needed to make the most of home advantage, but instead were officially eliminated from the competition following a 2-0 loss in Glasgow to Leipzig, with the Germans displaying a ruthlessness in front of goal that the home side sorely lacked.

Dutch champions Ajax, also in Adidas, were beaten 4-2 in Italy by Napoli. The Partenopei and Liverpool were both tipped by Flashpicks to win their respective fixtures (part of an interesting parlay btw), and they duly delivered. The Reds thrashed Rangers 7-1, with Mo Salah scoring a six minute hat trick for the visitors. This was also the only group where the two clubs that had won in Week 3 also ran out victors in Week 4.

Apart from Bayern, the only Adidas sides who would’ve been happy with their performance in Week 4 were Danish side Copenhagen, who managed to hold mighty Man City to a goalless stalemate, and Benfica, whose point in Paris gives them an excellent chance to progress to the round of 16.

The surprise package this week were Club Brugge, with the Macron-outfitted Belgian side sealing their spot in the next round from a tough group that also includes Porto, Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid.

The only teams with a 100% record after this round are Bayern and Napoli (EA7). Both, as you’d expect, have qualified for the next round.

New Rangers Home Strip 22-23 Castore

A round to forget for Castore- Rangers got thumped 7-1 by Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen’s hopes of qualifying were dealt a major blow with a 3-0 loss at home to Porto. Sevilla (also Castore) drew 1-1 away at BVB, but qualifying looks equally difficult for the Andalusians as well.
