New signing Tyrell Malacia will wear the number 12 jersey at Manchester United for the 2022/23 season, the club have announced. The young left back, Erik Ten Hag’s first acquisition as MUFC manager, wore No.5 at Feyenoord last season (2021/22) and has also previously worn No.15 and No.35 at the Dutch Eredivisie club.

Before Malacia, the number 12 shirt at United was last worn by defender Chris Smalling. Interestingly, Malacia and Smalling did battle at opposite ends of the pitch when their respective teams clashed in the inaugural Europa Conference League final back in May- Smalling’s Roma ran out 1-0 winners.
