Standard Chartered extend Liverpool kit sponsorship till 2023

Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp have been given a boost ahead of their Champions League final after principal shirt sponsors Standard Chartered today (May 24, 2018) announced that they would be extending their sponsorship with the Reds till the end of the 2022/23 season.

The banking giant first came on board as the main shirt sponsor at Anfield in 2010, replacing Carlsberg in a four year deal worth £80m. Extensions in 2013 and 2015 took the deal till the end of the 18/19 season and with this latest extension, SC will be seen on the front of Liverpol’s jerseys till 2023 (a total of 13 seasons)

Liverpool could also end up winning their first major piece of continental silverware with SC as sponsor if they beat Real Madrid in Kyiv this weekend.

Could they not have waited an extra few days for the CL final to finish? Might have had greater negotiating power if they won it? Or as I assume, it would have a built-in clause for an increase should they win CL.
