These are the new Uruguay shirts 2016/2017, the Uruguayan national team’s new uniforms for Copa America Centenario and other international fixtures in 16/17. Made by Puma and officially unveiled on 22 March, 2016, the strip will be worn by the likes of Barcelona’s Luis Suarez, Man Utd’s Guillermo Varela and their teammates on international duty.
The home jersey is blue, as you’d expect, and features a crew neck collar with golden trim. The shoulders have a thick black stripe (on either side), with the Puma cat on it.
The shirt also features the “Sun of May” design on the front. Inside the back of the neck are the words “La Celeste” (nickname for the team), with “Uruguay” appearing on the back of the jersey. Black shorts and socks with light blue detailing complete the look of Uruguay’s new home kit.
The alternate/away jersey is predominantly white in colour, with a single blue stripe on either shoulder flanked by golden trim. It will be paired with white shorts and socks with light blue trim and black detail.
The blue horizontal stripes on the bottom are taken from the Uruguayan flag and represent the original departments of Uruguay.
