Arsenal have unveiled their new home kit for 2023/24- the primary uniform that the Gunners will wear during the upcoming 23/24 Premier League season. The strip has been made by Adidas and pays tribute to the club’s legendary Invincibles from 2003/04, with 2023-24 marking the 20th anniversary of that season that saw the Gunners go unbeaten throughout the entire league campaign.
The new shirt has the club crest, the Adidas logo and the Adidas stripes on the shoulders all in gold. It also features a lightning bolt design- a nod to say that lightning doesn’t strike twice, and that the Gunners remain the only Premier League to have that remarkable achievement twenty years after they first managed it. The lightning bolt design also extends to the reverse, as can be seen in the pictures below.
Under Mikel Arteta, the Gunners came very close to dethroning reigning champions Man City of the league title in the just concluded 22/23 season, but they fell apart in the final third of the campaign, and eventually finished five points behind Pep Guardiola’s side. Nevertheless, there were plenty of lessons to learn for Arteta’s young charges, and they will be hoping to go one step better in 23/24.
The Gunners have been linked with a host of stars in the current transfer window, with the likes of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber all being touted as possible arrivals at the Emirates this summer. If those transfers do materialise, as expected, the Gunners could be real challengers for the title next season, as reflected in the current odds for them next season via this website.
The Invincibles went the entire 38 game campaign without a defeat, and the current uniform pays tribute to that achievement, with their results present in the taping of the authentic version of the jersey.
The original shirt however had only 32 of those results printed (instead of 38), and both Arsenal and kit manufacturers Adidas have stopped the sales of the authentic version due to the design error. A newer version will be released in due course.
The kit has already been won once by the Gunners- in their 5-0 triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the final game of last season. The women’s team however had to taste defeat in their first outing with the kit as they went down 2-0 to Aston Villa in the WSL.
In 03/04, the team with the next fewest losses were runners-up Chelsea, who ended up on the losing side 7 times. Arsenal conceded only 26 goals in that campaign- a pretty remarkable statistic, and Arteta will be keen to install the same kind of defensive resilience in his current squad.
The Gunners will be playing against some high-profile opposition in their pre-season tour, with fixtures against Man Utd, Barcelona and the MLS All-Stars lined up for them on the other side of the Atlantic in July. That will be followed by the Emirates Cup back home, with AS Monaco squaring off against them, and then the Community Shield clash against Man City.
