New Manchester City signing Kalvin Phillips will wear the No.4 shirt at the Etihad during the upcoming 2022/23 season, the club have announced. The number was vacant since the legendary Vincent Kompany’s departure, but City have now opted to give it to the 26-year-old midfielder, who has moved from Elland Road for a fee of £45m (£42m + £3m in addons) and has inked a six year deal with the Citizens.
Phillips wore the No.23 shirt at Leeds United last season. He has also previously worn No.40 and No.27 at LUFC.
City also confirmed the departure of Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal- the Brazilian will however have the same number 9 jersey that he had at City.
Poor lad, I hope he does well, but he’s more likely to be the next Rodwell at City rather than the next Kompany.
