Adidas & Chelsea to end association in June 2017

Chelsea and Adidas have mutually agreed to end their partnership in June 2017, six years earlier than planned. The two parties had recently inked a contract extension till June 30, 2023, but the deal will now end on June 30, 2017, meaning that the Blues will have a new technical kit partner for the 2017/18 season.

Chelsea’s association with Adidas began back in the 2006 season and the German giants released the club’s 2016/17 home kit a few days ago. This 2016/17 season will therefore be the Blues’ last with Adidas. They will also pay compensation to Adidas for early termination of the contract

Adidas supplied kits to 6 of the 20 teams in the 2015/16 Premier League- Chelsea, Manchester United, Southampton, Sunderland, Swansea and West Brom. They’ve already lost Southampton and Swansea ahead of the 16/17 season with the former going with Under Armour and the latter inking a partnership with Joma.

Will Under Armour or Umbro stump up the cash required to buy out the Adidas deal?

Surprised at this, maybe they were unhappy with the attention United were being given?

It’s also really interesting to know that Chelsea shirts sold more than Man United shirts this season. Looks like Adidas made a balls up with their relationship with Chelsea as Chelsea were unhappy with how much Adidas paid to be Man United’s kit supplier.
