Southampton have officially announced a new shirt deal with Under Armour that will see the latter replace Adidas as the club’s technical kit partners beginning the 2016/17 season. The deal is for a period of 7 years (2016-2023) and officially kicks in on July 1, 2016.

The value of the contract was not revealed, but sources estimate it to be around the £40m mark, thus making it a significant improvement on their last deal with Adidas.

Under Armour are actively looking to expand in the UK market and already have Tottenham Hotspur and Premiership rugby club Wasps on their books. Apart from Southampton, they’ve also recently inked a a long term with Worcester Warriors (rugby union- beginning 2016/17)

Southampton are also expected to hunt for a new principal shirt sponsor as it appears that Veho will not be renewing.

I think Aston Villa are going with Under Armour as well, good to see another player elbow their way into the market, especially when it’s at the expense of bland adidas templates.

Under Armour’s Spurs kits have been great, and they generally please the fans. Considering fans disliked adidas’s template kits it looks a good match
